The Years of Sally..... 2001
2001 was, by far, Sally's biggest year in terms of number of appearances. Her final outings with Harry Enfield were the feature length's "Tim Nice-But-Dim's Guide to Being a Bloody Nice Bloke" and "Wayne and Waynetta's Guide To Wedded Bliss". Her second "movie" appearance was a small part in the comedy drama "Goodbye Charlie Bright" which included the likes of up and coming Phil Daniels, Paul Nichols and Roland Manookian. 2001 saw the beginning of a spell of working with Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller. In the "Armstrong and Miller" show but, also, "Beast". Continuing her growing CV of working with the comedy elite, of the time, Sally was to appear in an episode of Steve Coogan's "Dr Terrible's House of Horrible". In TV soap Sally appeared in "Doctor's" and the, short lived, "Night and Day".
Most that you read about, in this group, is held in the Database of material that I maintain. There was, though, in 2001 an appearance that I am still to source. Sally appeared with Gavin Abbott, Lynda Bellingham, Tom Cameron and Sue Johnston in "Happy Together".
By far the biggest moment of Sally's career, so far, was to be when she took on the role of Donna in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's "The Office". Arguably the role that launched Sally's career. Sally plays down the significance a little when she says "It probably helped in the short-term as there was such a buzz about anybody who was in it, so when you wanted to audition for something people would go ah, right, yeah... We'll look at her." She does, though, state that she was "really proud to have been in it".
Pause for breath. That's 2001 into "The Years of Sally" bag!
