The Years of Sally..... 2002

After the hectic year that had been 2001, 2002 proved to be somewhat quieter, from a TV perspective, with no credits at all.

It was the year that Sally debuted in the theatre.

While performing in the Oxford Stage Company adaptation of "Hay Fever" Sally observed, in an interview when refering to "The Office" which had been such a success the previous year, that "the only sad thing from my point of view is that they decided not to keep Donna on, so I won’t be in the second series which is filming now." Perhaps she had originally expected to be a part of series 2?

"Hay Fever", a Noel Coward comedy, continued Sally's comedic education. This time on the boards.

Also in 2002 Sally was to appear as Honey in Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf". Sally's reviews were impressive :-

"It is a challenge to carry off a convincing drunken performance over three acts but Sally Bretton as naive brandy-swigging Honey puts in a hilariously accurate performance."

An award nomination followed.

So 2002 showed only 2 additions to the CV but a lot of work will have gone into rehearsals and touring the plays. Sally will have learned much. In an interview, for "Hay Fever", she said :-

" You feel more secure in the theatre because you have a lot more time to develop your character than in television, where everything is done so quickly.”

I have found a few regional newspaper articles about these performances but recordings and photographs have been elusive. Here is a poor quality picture from "Hay Fever".l
