Years of Sally - 2011

There are two recordings, from 2011, that are yet to find their way into the database.

The first is Sally's second appearance in the BBC Hospital drama "Casualty". On this occasion she played Stevie Thornell. Stevie, after a heated altercation with her partner Rob, falls from a car. She is to suffer head laceration, broken ribs and a punctured lung.

The second missing recording is "The Last Temptation of William Shaw". A short film about which I know little. Sally plays Emily and appears with Keith Chanter. 

A relatively recent addition to the database is the short film, starring Sean Lock, Chris Oliver (from Green Wing) and Sally. The film was part of a Shelter campaign to raise the awareness of exploitative landlords. Lock plays the corrupt landlord while Oliver and Sally play the young couple looking for a home. 

Series 4 of Not Going Out was to air at the beginning of 2011. Sally was now well settled into the role of Lee's live in Landlady. Lee continued to try an impress Lucy and to win her affections as something more than a landlady alone. Particularly memorable, for Sally, was the latex makeup that formed the oversized Lucy in Lee's coma vision of the future in "Life on Mars Bars".

How an enjoyment of the work of Sally Bretton developed into an obsession and, ultimately, a desire to share. (Picture - Daily Telegraph, 28th March 2025 - Interview for Beyond Paradise Series 3)  My first encounter with the work of Sally goes back to her appearances with Harry Enfield in the early 2000's. To my knowledge Sally has only once appeared with Catherine Tate on TV. The significance being that, under different circumstances regarding Tate, Sally might never have appeared on Not Going Out. It is common knowledge that Sally replaced Megan Dodds in Series 2 of NGO. But the knowledge is possibly reserved for the aficianado's that Megan Dodds was not the original Kate. In the, not televised, pilot Kate was played by Catherine Tate. Success in her other endeavours meant that Tate did not move forwards with NGO. Wild West was created by Simon Nye, of Men Behaving Badly fame. It starred Catherine Tate and Dawn French. In the penultimate episode of the second and final series, aired in April 2004, Sally played Victoria the daughter that main character Old Jake (David Bradley) never knew he had.
